The McDonald Borough Police Department is staffed with five full time officers supplemented by 10 part time patrol officers and an administrative assistant to provide public safety services and law enforcement on a 24 hour per day 7-day basis. The McDonald police department also provides public safety and law enforcement services for Robinson Township (Washington County) and the Boroughs of Midway, West Middletown, and Independence Township through a contractual arrangement. Crime prevention, law enforcement and community-oriented services are our primary focus. Law enforcement services include but are not limited to:

Our police force is active in the Washington County District Attorney Drug Task Force, the Attorney General’s Municipal Drug Task Force, and the Washington County SpecialResponse Team.

Child Restraint Safety

Chief Dennis Ahlborn of the Police Department is a Certified Technician in Child Restraint Safety. Residents may schedule an appointment to have their child car seats inspected, which also includes teaching parents proper installation. The inspection takes approximately 1/2 hour. Vacation Home Checks

If you plan to be away from your home or business for an extended period arrangements can be made to increase patrols and routine surveillance in your area. To receive this added service it is necessary for you to notify the police department at the telephone number listed above.

Key Borough Ordinances

The following are key ordinances, which are focused on public safety, community pride and our “good neighbor” philosophy. This listing does not represent all borough ordinances, which can be reviewed at the borough offices if desired.

  • Buildings shall have approved address numbers placed in a position to be plainly legible and visable from the street or road fronting the property. These numbers shall contrast with their background. Address numbers shall be Arabic numerals or alphabet letters. Numbers shall be not less than 4 inches in height with a minumum stroke width of 0.5 inches.
  • Owners are responsible for maintaining their properties and grass and weeds are not permitted beyond six inches tall.
  • Owners of dogs and cats must restrain their pets and not allow them to run loose.
  • Property owners/residents with sidewalks in front of their property are responsible for keeping them clear of ice and snow. Snow is not permitted to be shoveled from the sidewalk into the street.
  • Repair and replacement of curbs and sidewalks are the responsibility of the property owners.
  • The Borough prohibits the parking of any motor vehicle on any Borough street the day of scheduled street sweeping. Please be reminded, residents will be required to remove their vehicles for sweeping.
  • Trailers, boats, motor homes and other recreational vehicles may not be stored in front yards.
  • Cars not in running condition and/or without a valid inspection sticker or registration are not permitted on residential property for more than 30 days.
  • Residents are reminded to be good neighbors and not allow activities on their property to generate excessive noise, accumulate trash or allow yards to be un-kept. Borough code requires regular maintenance of your property.
  • No person is permitted to engage in any transit retail business without a Borough License.
